# Configure MCP gateways

> Set transport, authentication, visibility, and tool access for an MCP gateway

## Transport and endpoint

Use the endpoint and transport documented by the MCP server provider. Ensure the Bud deployment can reach the endpoint over its configured network path before publishing the connection.

## Authentication

Select the authentication method supported by the gateway and enter only the values requested by its connector form. MCP Foundry sends these values upstream; Bud does not expose them in agent prompts or tool-call responses.

## Visibility and least privilege

Use project-scoped visibility by default. Make a connection global only when it is suitable for every project. Then attach the smallest useful subset of discovered tools to each agent.

## Change management

Test endpoint, credential, or tool changes with a non-production agent before rolling them out. Rotate compromised credentials at the provider and update the gateway configuration immediately.
